NHL 2013 season recap

What it lacked in length it made up for in drama.

The Blackhawks opened the season with 24 straight games recording a point and guaranteed themselves a division title before the season was even a month old. The Penguins went on a 15 game win streak of their own. Some shocking things happened:

The New York Islanders made the playoffs. Philadelphia did not.

Lindy Ruff was fired. Jack Capuano wasn’t.

Anaheim finally achieved their potential. Montreal reminded everyone that they are never a team to be taken lightly.

Brenden Morrow and Jarome Iginla were both traded (to the same team no less) after being the heart and soul of their teams for the last 15 years. Somehow Roberto Luongo wasn’t traded, prompting him to publicly state he hated the contract that was paying him millions to sit on the bench. Probably the first time in all of pro-sports a player has publicly lamented that he is being over-paid.
