After an exciting (yet abbreviated) regular season the NHL get down to what makes it the greatest game in the known galaxy (Rule #8.) The Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The NFL postseason has its own brand of excitement with its win-or-go-home mentality. But it can lead to disappointment and anti-climactic matchups. If the NFL is a lunchtime quickie then the Stanley Cup playoffs are a tantric orgy.
It starts slow and builds over two months. It’s a grind. A punishing gauntlet that only permits those playing a solid brand of team hockey to pass. MLB and NBA championships are won on the backs of individuals all the time. The Stanley Cup does not permit such individual heroics.
If it was any more brutal it would be in an octagon cage.
If it was any more mentally exhausting the Geneva Convention would ban it as a form of torture.
Let’s look ahead and get right into what looks to be a great spring.
