At around 3:30 today, the news broke that Buffalo Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff, the longest-tenured coach in the NHL, has been fired. Ron Rolston will be the interim head coach. Ruff has been the coach in Buffalo since the 1997-1998 season, and many Sabres fans are going to have majorly mixed emotions about this. Should Ruff have been ousted? There is definitely a lot of merit to both sides of the argument. I’ll present the reasons for and against the pink slip before reaching a verdict on this compelling story.

There are many reasons Ruff got axed. First, the obvious: they’re last in the Northeast Division and are 6-10-1 so far this year. With a shortened season, there was no time to keep losing winnable games. Obviously management thought a coaching change was the first step in correcting the struggles.
